EIRI™ (Ecological Integrity and Restorative Index™) composite 48.5 at Year Five. Soil carbon up 34% across the Rift Valley trial sites. Biodiversity up 51%. The Birmingham church reached net carbon-positive status — not through a sustainability policy but through three years of formation that connected the theology of creation care to the specific household and institutional practices that express it. And Daniel who held the 1973 river book at twelve is now twenty-five studying the rivers his great-great-grandfather worried about. These are not separate stories. They are the same story across different scales: the covenant held across generations expressed through a table and a book producing a person who becomes a priest of the land his ancestors loved.
"The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose"
Today celebrate one specific ecological improvement in your immediate environment — however small. Name what produced it. Then identify the next step toward the EIRI you cannot yet see.
The most important finding of the EIRI™ (Ecological Integrity and Restorative Index™) framework is not that ecological restoration happens — scientists have known that for decades. It is that the restoration that happens in communities with strong ecological formation is faster more sustained and more comprehensive than the restoration that happens in communities with strong ecological policy but weak formation. The Birmingham church at net carbon-positive status did not achieve that outcome through a sustainability committee. It achieved it through three years of covenant formation.
- Communities implementing ecological programmes without the formation that makes those programmes culturally embedded and generationally sustained
- The 34% soil carbon increase waiting to happen in communities where ecological formation has not yet occurred
- Daniel's generation waiting for the previous generation to begin the covenant that will produce their ecological inheritance
Joel 2:22-24: Be not afraid you wild animals for the pastures in the wilderness are becoming green. The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their riches. Rejoice in the Lord your God for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. The restoration of creation is described as an act of God's faithfulness — and it is preceded by the people's return to covenant. Ecological restoration follows spiritual restoration. The EIRI™ (Ecological Integrity and Restorative Index™) follows the SAES™ (Spiritual Apathy and Efficacy Score™)
The world produces ecological restoration through regulation incentive and technological intervention.
God produces ecological restoration through the formation of covenant-keeping priests who tend their specific ground with specific faithfulness across specific generations.
Ezekiel 47:12: Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing. The vision of restored creation is specific lush and healing — flowing from the sanctuary. Ecological restoration and spiritual restoration share the same source.
"Lord let the rivers get better because of the people You have formed to care for them. Let the soil carbon rise the biodiversity recover and the wilderness rejoice — because Your people have kept the covenant. In Jesus' name Amen."

The water that heals the land flows from the sanctuary — restoration of the earth begins with restoration to God. Whatever in your life has become wilderness, He is the One who makes it rejoice and blossom. Come to Him today, and let the healing begin at its source.
