The maternity ward in the northern district was built with recovered fraud funds. The fraud had been documented over seventeen years by three different officials in three different roles — all of whom believed their documentation was going nowhere. It went somewhere. When Amara's tribunal had enough political protection to act, it acted on seventeen years of accumulated, specific, dated, witnessed records. The just person's first discipline is documentation — not because the record will be used immediately but because it will matter to someone who comes later.
"And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works"
Today, write down one specific injustice you have witnessed — the date, the people involved, the specific harm caused. That record may matter in a courtroom you cannot yet see.
Documentation feels passive. It feels like the response of someone who cannot act. In the framework of the Mabara tribunal, documentation is the act that makes all subsequent action possible. The whistleblower who documents in private creates the infrastructure for the coalition that acts in public. The record that seems to go nowhere is the foundation on which the next generation builds.
- Injustices going undocumented because the documenter cannot yet see how the record will be used
- The institutional memory of failure lost when the just person exits without leaving a record
- The next generation of reformers rebuilding from scratch what the previous generation witnessed but did not write down
Luke 8:17: For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open. The hidden thing will be disclosed. The just person's documentation is the instrument through which God brings the hidden into the open — in His timing, through His chosen instruments.
The world treats documentation as a bureaucratic requirement — something compliance officers do, not justice workers.
God keeps a complete record of every act of injustice and every act of faithfulness — and calls His people to participate in that accounting by keeping their own faithful records.
Malachi 3:16: A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honoured his name. God's own documentation practice: a scroll of remembrance for those who fear Him. The just person's documentation is an act of participation in God's accounting.
"Lord, give me the discipline to document what I see, even when I cannot see how it will be used. Let my faithful record become the foundation that those who come after me build on. In Jesus' name, Amen."
