1 Summary
Mark's gospel is the busiest gospel. Immediately follows immediately follows immediately. In chapter 1 alone, Jesus teaches, casts out a demon, heals Peter's mother-in-law, heals a city's sick, and then — while it is still dark — withdraws to pray. The busiest person in the gospels treated solitude as non-negotiable. Elias learned this from his father's journals: the entries made after prayer were different in quality from those made from momentum.

The cultural pressure to be always available, always delivering, always responsive has colonised the time that prayer requires. Leaders hold meetings where they should be holding silence. Communities are shaped by practitioners who act from their own resources because they have not maintained access to the Source.

- Decisions made from exhaustion masquerading as urgency
- Leaders whose public prayer is practiced but whose private prayer is absent
- Communities led by people who are running faster than their formation is moving
Luke 22:39: Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. As usual. Solitude was not his emergency response. It was his daily discipline.

The world rewards constant visibility, constant output, and constant responsiveness.

God does the most lasting work through people who have first been still before Him — whose action is sourced rather than self-generated.
Matthew 6:6: When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. The room is not a place — it is a posture of hiddenness that protects the source.

Private prayer is where integrity is kept honest. The leader whose public prayer is practised but whose private prayer is absent has already begun to perform rather than to follow — and the hidden room is the only place that gap can close

Decisions made from exhaustion masquerading as urgency cost more than the rest they displaced. Protected silence restores the judgement, perspective, and physical steadiness that constant availability quietly erodes

The most expensive decisions are the ones made from momentum. A leader who brings the week’s hardest choice to God before bringing it to a meeting spends resources on the right thing the first time
