The Earthkeeping Home Covenant
Genesis 2 (KJV) Leviticus 25 (KJV) Romans 8 (KJV)

The Earthkeeping Home Covenant operates across three domains of daily household practice. What you eat: fresh local seasonal food in preference to ultra-processed wherever your context allows — giving the soil what the soil gave you. What you waste: the reduce-reuse-recycle hierarchy applied in that order with composting as the household's most direct soil-relationship practice. And what you grow or tend: one plant one garden bed one community plot one piece of ground for which someone takes personal responsibility. The compost bin is not an environmental appliance. It is a daily act of covenant with the land. The garden is not a hobby. It is the discipline of a priest who tends specific ground.

Genesis 2 Work it and take care of it — the household's ecological mandate
Leviticus 25 The land shall have a sabbath — the right to rest built into the covenant
Romans 8 Creation waits for the children of God — ecological faithfulness as revelation

"Key verse: Genesis 2:15 (KJV)"

Genesis 2:15 (KJV)

⚡ This Week's Action

This week start one composting practice. Return something to the earth. That is the beginning of the Earthkeeping Covenant.

The Household Has Been Formed as a Consumer of Creation Rather Than a Steward of It

The contemporary household extracts from the ecological resource base through its food choices its waste practices and its consumption patterns — and contributes almost nothing back. The Earthkeeping Home Covenant is the household-level application of the priestly mandate: not a comprehensive environmental policy but a set of specific daily practices through which ordinary people exercise faithful stewardship in the most immediate sphere of their influence.

  • Households consuming the ecological resource base without contributing to its restoration
  • Families whose children grow up without any direct relationship to a growing living thing
  • The ecological formation that should happen at household level absent because no covenant has been made

Leviticus 25:4-5: But in the seventh year the land is to have a year of sabbath rest a sabbath to the Lord. Do not sow your fields or prune your vineyards. The land itself has a sabbath — a right to rest and restoration built into the covenant structure of creation care. The household that gives the land its sabbath is practising the most ancient form of the Earthkeeping Covenant.

🌐 World's View

The world treats household environmental practices as lifestyle choices — individual preferences that may or may not align with environmental responsibility.

✝️ God's View

God calls His people to covenant with the land through specific household practices that return to the earth what has been taken from it — in acknowledgement that it belongs to Another.

Romans 8:19-21: The creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration not by its own choice but by the will of the one who subjected it in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay. The creation is waiting for the children of God — for the priests who will exercise the redeemed dominion that releases it from the decay imposed by unredeemed management.
