Dr. Tariq Hassan's sixteen years as a GP produced one consistent clinical observation: the body carries what the soul has not yet processed. The chronic back pain that began when a marriage ended. The immune dysregulation that tracked the peaks of professional stress with uncomfortable precision. The autoimmune condition that arrived in the year of the vocational crisis. These are not mystical observations. They are physiological ones. Shalom — the Hebrew word for peace that means the integration of spirit soul and body in alignment with their created purpose — is not a spiritual aspiration. It is a measurable human condition.
"Key verse: Philippians 4:7 (KJV)"
Today, ask yourself one question honestly: which dimension of my integrated life is most depleted right now? Name it specifically. Take one step toward restoration.
The clinical model excels at treating specific pathologies within specific organ systems. It is structurally incapable of addressing the person — the integrated whole whose physiological condition is shaped by their relational health, their vocational meaning, their spiritual formation, and their ecological connection. The HHRI exists because Tariq discovered that the most significant determinants of his patients' health were outside the scope of his clinical training.
- Patients managing physical symptoms whose root causes are relational spiritual or vocational
- Healthcare systems treating presenting conditions while ignoring the formation that produced them
- A culture that has medicalised the consequences of formational failure without addressing the failure
Numbers 6:24-26: The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. The Aaronic blessing is a comprehensive flourishing prayer — spirit soul and body in the favour of God. This is shalom. This is what the HHRI is trying to measure.
The world measures health by the absence of diagnosed disease — a negative standard that misses the positive abundance of integrated flourishing.
God designed human beings for shalom — a positive condition of integrated vitality that enables full contribution to the purposes for which they were created.
Isaiah 26:3: You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Perfect peace — shalom shalom in Hebrew, the doubled word for emphasis. The integration of trust with steadfastness produces peace not as a feeling but as a condition.
"Lord, I was designed for shalom — the integrated wholeness of spirit soul and body aligned with my created purpose. Where I have settled for the management of symptoms, restore me to the abundance You designed. In Jesus' name, Amen."
