Nadia Osei-Boateng's grandfather built something before there was a name for it. Every Sunday lunch for sixty years. Every conversation at the table directed toward what mattered. Every story about the family's history told with the precision of someone who understood that identity is transmitted, not assumed. Before the state, before the school, before the church — God established the family. Nadia's professional life as a child psychologist was spent watching what happens when the first institution fails.
"Key verse: Genesis 2:18 (KJV)"
This week, identify one ordinary moment — a car journey, a shared meal, a bedtime — and use it intentionally for household formation. Not a lecture. A conversation.
When the family is reduced to a lifestyle arrangement — one valid option among several — the downstream consequences are borne by every other institution. The school that inherits a child who has never been formed at a table. The civic institution that receives an adult who has never learned covenant loyalty. The church that tries to form what the household should have begun.
- Educational systems carrying formation burdens that belong to the home
- Children whose primary relational formation is algorithmic rather than covenantal
- The practitioner generation of every other pillar arriving undertrained because the first institution has not done its work
Deuteronomy 6:7 says to talk about these things when you sit at home, when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Formation is not a programme. It is a way of life integrated into every ordinary moment of the household.
The world treats family structure as a personal lifestyle choice with no particular public consequence.
God established the family as the primary formation institution of every society — and its health or failure has consequences that reach every other pillar.
Ephesians 5:25-33 describes marriage as a covenant that reflects the relationship between Christ and the church. The family is not merely a biological unit. It is a theological institution — designed to display and transmit covenant faithfulness.
"Lord, restore in our household the understanding that we are the first institution. What we transmit at our table will shape what the next generation carries into every sphere of their lives. Let us transmit well. In Jesus' name, Amen."
