The GWM's Generosity Velocity metric measures not the amount given but the rate at which giving increases as economic capacity increases. Samuel's observation from eight years of community finance: the most reliable predictor of long-term GWM growth is not starting capital or business model quality. It is the Generosity Velocity of the enterprise's leadership. The enterprise whose leaders' giving rate increases faster than their income rate is the enterprise that builds the economic culture that the GWM is designed to measure.
"Key verse: 2 Corinthians 9:7 (KJV)"
This week, increase your giving rate by one percentage point. Not the amount — the proportion. And notice what that decision does to your relationship with what you hold.
The cultural script for generous giving is: earn, accumulate, succeed, then give. The Kingdom script is different: give first, give proportionally, give in a way that challenges the scarcity mindset, and watch the giving practice shape the economic culture of everything built afterward. The widow who gave her two coins gave at a rate that exceeded every wealthy donor in the temple — not because she had more but because her giving was proportionally total.
- Enterprises whose generosity increases at a slower rate than their income — accumulating the gap between what they produce and what they give
- Leaders who intend to give more when they have more — and find that having more produces the desire for more rather than the freedom to give more
- The Kingdom economic culture that only generous giving at every level of income can produce
Luke 21:3-4: Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on. The standard of generous giving is not amount — it is proportion and the conviction that what I have is not mine to hoard.
The world treats generosity as a post-success activity — something to consider once sufficient accumulation has been achieved.
God measures generosity by proportion and conviction rather than by amount — and calls His people to practise it at every level of income, not only after a certain threshold.
Acts 4:34-35: There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need. The early community's generosity was not a programme. It was a practice — arising from the conviction that what they held was not theirs.
"Lord, let my Generosity Velocity increase faster than my income. Let the practice of giving at every level of income shape the economic culture of everything I build. Make me a cheerful giver — not eventually, but now. In Jesus' name, Amen."
